Dystopia being equal to Rosie O'Donnell's dressing room.. I was like, "Ooooh, they went there..."
Jose Llana chucking candy at Lea was so cute.
In all, I am SO glad I went. I even shelled out neighty bucks for the special Broadway night poster.
Incidentally...Emcee, you were there? I had so wanted to meet you! I was int he second row of the bleachers, on the left, in the black-and-white houndstooth coat. Barrett Foa climbed on me and grabbed my head.

I was indeed. I was close to the back in the center section. I wish I had known you were there! We should meet anyway, PM me.
I was like, "Ooooh, they went there..."
That seemed to be the general reaction. It was like... laughter, laughter, laughter, Rosie joke, laughter, Raúl's vaguely freaked out facial expression, audience-wide "ohhhh."
Jose Llana is adorable. I'm glad he's still in the show!

Bal- Just saying hi, because I realize now that you're the person I gave my extra lotto tickets to.
Lea Solonga was so adorable. She was laughing so much, I though she wouldn't be able to collect herself after the Flower Drum Thong joke to actually spell the word.

Won lottery and am sooooo happy I did (except my butt is still numb from the bench seats, lol!) My first time seeing it and I was in stitches the entire time!!
Hey Emcee, I was feet away from Raul and all I could do was think of you, lol!! He is much cuter in person! Wish I had gotten the chance to see you.

They made Lea spell helicopter? That is hysterical.
What word did they use to eliminate Stokes?

I looked for you, Tink! Sorry we missed each other. (Isn't he gorgeous?)
"Flower Drum Thong" was my favorite.

They used xerophthalmia to eliminate Stokes Mitchell. He started to spell it with a Z.
To eliminate Lea they used crapaud (krap-oh), which is a South American bullfrog. The expression on her face was hilarious when they said the word, then she said "oh crap" or something to that effect.

Posted: 3/18/07 at 11:59pmThat's extra hysterical since "Mamzelle Crapaud" is actually what Mme. Thénardier calls Cosette in the novel.

Yes, she did. "...This is crapaud...."
Stokes' eliminatory trip to the microphone was hilarious. "There is only one written citation..." "Care to share it...?"
And thanks for the lotto seats, Viola!!!!

I still think it would've been hilarious if Raul had sung My Unfortunate Erection.
Oh, to dream...

With all the nervous giggling of his tonight, it would have been the most awkward thing ever to happen on a stage. Ever. Evereverever.
...But possibly adorably so?

Adorably awkward is the best kind.
I also wonder what they would've said about him, or what other words he would've gotten had he not been eliminated so quickly. Oh the possible (inappropriate?) scenarios my mind has conjured...

I really want to know what other jokes they had in line for him!
Awkwardness is often by nature adorable.

We were there, in Row A seats 206-208. It was great, very funny. Wife ran up to catch Raul right after the show, had him sign her playbill - she was thrilled, first time she got to speak to him. Bought one of the 6 posters they had available, signed by the cast and the three guest spellers. Too bad Raul didn't make it past the first round, his expressions on the stage were priceless. Brian Stokes Mitchell was hilarious, and Lea is pretty hot! lol
Third time seeing the show (including the "adult" version", and this time was the best!

Posted: 3/19/07 at 10:08amHas Raul seen the show before? By his reactions, seems like he hadn't. Was also nice that all 3 stayed the whole show....

Posted: 3/19/07 at 10:22amwould you please give me more details about Stokes? thank you.
#74re: Stokes, Ebersole, Esparza to Guest at Spelling Bee's Broadway Night
Posted: 3/19/07 at 10:35amStokes was so good-natured about it all. He got a "random lighting round," because he needed to be off-stage for the next song. His intro was that he was the first speller whose name was a complete sentence. The first word he got was "indigent," and the sentence was something about how indigent people gather at the Actors' Equity lounge. He had another that had something to do with lust, and the sentence was about a chorus girl telling someone to meet her backstage and she'd show him her "Spring Awakening." The cast followed him back to his seat during the goodbye song and Barrett sat on the lap of whoever was next to him.
