How can her new CD be the most acclaimed album of the year when it's not out yet?

because Barbra says so, damn it!
Because it's...well...y'know, BARBRA.
And while the quotes she mentions are all pretty breathless, I must admit that I have heard only good things about it, and I'm a BIG critic of Barbras music (starting with the wish that she takes a nice long break from recording ANYTHING by the Bergmans). I'm a fan too, but feel that if only she would take MY instruction on what songs to choose, she'd be FAR better off ("OK, toots, now I know you won't mind doing a double album of, say, about forty songs that I pick and we'll call it something like 'Barbra: the LcZ Collection'...sounds pretty classy, huh? Yes,I knew you'd agree...").
I'm actually pretty excited about the album. For once there are NO DUETS (yay) and the selection is pretty interesting. Her version of "You're Gonna Hear From Me" has been described to me as "Barbra c. 1967". Which means it's the the most faboo and gayest song to be released this year!
I've had the pleasure of hearing the album this week, and I can definitely say that if you're a fan of Streisand that you're going to love this CD... In my humble opinion it's the best thing that she's done in a while, and while her voice has lost some of the top register, it still soars.
If I had to come up with a complaint, it'd be with an overall slow tempo - but I've had the album on repeat since Tuesday so it's not a big complaint at all!
Rob, is the "Barbra 1967" description of YGHFM accurate?
YGHFM is quite possibly my favorite track on the CD... She's singing in 2003 voice with 1967 spirit -- a great combo.

Oh thanks RobD! It just makes me want to hear it even more!!
Thanks Rob! That MORE than answers my question!
I gotta say YGHFM was the song that I was most excited about her singing as well. Hot Diggity!
Personally, I'm REALLY looking forward to hearing her version of "Calling You". It's been one of my favorite songs for a long time, and I'm over the moon by the fact my favorite singer has recorded it! Also, I can't wait to hear what she's done with "Smile" -should be amazing.

I deem this thread to be Off Topic. That Streisand Woman hasn't been on Broadway since the Mid-Sixties. Remember, we are trying to stay focuded on broadway here.
Woops, I just noticed who originated the thread....Sorry!!!!!!
Kisses on your Dollypop! XXx :)
And Carol Channing only starred in one Broadway show (and every revival of it), whereas Barbra was in 2 Broadway shows!
I can't wait to get the cd...and she's on Oprah the same day! I was singing "Smile" yesterday. lol
I'm leaving the room now, TheaterBaby....You don't know what you've done (shudder).......
As they say in COBRA WOMAN: "Fire Mountain Angry!"
Muwahaha **evil laughter**
I just don't get why Dollpypop has to post on any Barbra Streisand topic. Yeah, we know you don't like her; you don't have to keep reminding us. If you despise the woman so much (which you have every right to do), then why not just avoid any topic pertaining to her?

This album is her best work since her award winning work in "Hello, Dolly".
Wasn't she the ultimate Dolly? Who could ever top her??

I probably do need to brush up. Would you kindly tell me what else she was in? I certainly apologize if I am wrong, but I think most people only recognize her from Hello, Dolly! when pertaining to Broadway.

Let me fill you in on a few things, TheaterBaby:
The Goddess Carol (TGC) made her Broadway debut in a revue called LEND AN EAR in the early 50's. This was followed by GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES, in which she introduced the world to the song about Rob's family, "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend". From there she replaced Rosalind Russell in WONDERFUL TOWN, and later toured in many productions of plays by George Bernard Shaw; most notably THE MILLIONAIRESS. She returned to Broadway in shows like THE VAMP and SHOW GIRL, but HELLO,DOLLY! truly became her signature role.
She reprised GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES in the late 60's, only it was called LORELEI. As the original Broadway run of TWHM was winding down in 1970, TGC was across the street at the Broadhurst, where she starred with Sid Caesar in Abe Burrows' comedy called FOUR ON A GARDEN. She also toured in JERRY's GIRLS and SUGAR BABIES (with Robert Morse). After the death of Gracie Allen, TGC teamed up with George Burns, performing many of the routines made famous by Gracie.
Yes, TGC will always be associated with TWHM because she has toured extensively in it. Right now they are trying to mount a revival of the show, but most actresses are turning the role down because they are afraid of essaying a role so closely associated with such a magnificent talent.
Next question?
Wow lol I honestly had no idea how extensive her work was. I did know she was in Gentelmen Prefer Blondes...I can't believe I forgot that.
I have been meaning to get her autobiography.
lol, it's kind of sad, but the way Dollypop knows so much about Carol is the way I know so much about Barbra...and she is certainly not off-topic.

TheaterBaby, please get a sense of humor. Perhaps you've noticed that Rob posted a message that we should try to stay "on topic" here. I then went through the threads and posted messages that these messages were't "on topic". I especially zeroed in on threads he had initiated. This was done tongue-in-cheek. I hope you understand what that phrase means because I'm tired of explaining things to you.
LOL, some funny replies here!
Because of my Streisand fan-site, Columbia sent me an advance copy of THE MOVIE ALBUM last week. I think it's her best album since THE CONCERT, and maybe since THE BROADWAY ALBUM.
Her voice is in great shape and sounds better than ever.
"Calling You" is my favorite track - kind of a different song for Barbra. But she sounds great, and it's a synthesized arrangement.
I've also seen the 2-song DVD (which is available NOW if you pre-order at Amazon. You can watch it on Window Media Player).
Anyway, this is exciting stuff for Streisand fans.

awww,I hope you haven't been trying to explain anything to me in your posts because I never really read all of them.
I do have a sense of humor. Perhaps that cannot be expressed on a message board because you cannot read a tone of voice. I got that you were making a joke because of what Rob had said; contrary to what you may think, I'm not a stupid person. I did not realize that you had made the "Off-topic" joke in other threads, because as I said, I don't read all of your posts.
It is quite obvious that you just can't stand anyone who is a fan of Barbra Streisand.
