I ran into Elaine Stritch more than once over the years. The day we met she clutched my arm as if trying to puncture a life preserver. Then gave me a lift home. Then regaled me with stories, including one about getting canned from playing Mary Tyler Moore's mother, peppering it all with loads of f-bombs. I went home and wrote down every word.

My personal recollection of Elaine Stritch in today's Huffington Post.
