Studio Cast Recording of RENT's *other* music?

How does a studio cast recording of all the OTHER songs Jonathan Larson wrote for RENT that never made it into the show sound?. There's like 60 unused songs, correct?

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

It sounds like he is suggesting a recording of the cut songs be made commercially available.

I'd say don't count on it.
Idina: Somehow I got myself to the stage, came out at the end of the show, and I had some kind of closure.
Some guy: You looked great!

Hahaha.

Yes, a studio cast recording of all his songs he wrote for RENT during its development process but ultimately didn't make it into the show. For the 10th Anniversary of RENT.

Will never happen, but would be a nice tribute to the show.

What gets me is that Frank Wildhorn can do this with J&H, but...well people CAN do this with RENT but they wont. I know that the CD probably wouldn't see enough to make a profit, but we know which would sell more.

It's a cool concept, but frankly the songs were cut for a reason. A VERY GOOD reason. And this is coming from someone who practically worships Jon Larson.

I think 'Real Estate' answers that question.

"There ain't no money in documentary film!"

Although I can see where this is coming from, there were some interesting tracks along the way. 'You Were Right' is a lovely song up until the end (which manages to rhyme 'libido' and 'torpedo' -- poorly). 'Open Road' is glorious but had no place in the show. 'You'll Get Over It' is kind of hysterical. And 'Valentine's Day' (draw a little heart, draw a little arrow, draw a little blood) can rock it out.

But that's four songs... an album it does not make.

I bet a few of the songs could be improved solely by the person chosen to sing them. Frankly, I haven't gotten through the first 5 seconds of "Right Brain" or "Open Road" just because the person playing Roger makes me want to rip out my eardrums. And the person playing Benny sounds like he is on crack or some sort of happy pills.

But I agree, the songs were cut for a reason and maybe should just be left to exist as they are...

Do A Little Business is my favorite song from this version. Brillant musical theatre? No, but it's always good for a laugh.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.
