One of the most remarkable men of the 20th Century - and he lieved and documented most of it! He helped define Chicago as much as any of its cultural or architectural landmarks, as much as any single historical event, as much as Michigan Avenue or Grant Park or Uno's Pizzeria. Listening to his radio show was a regular part of my Chicago days, and his books sit prominently on my shelf.
If you go to http://www.chicagotribune.com/ you will find a link on their front page to some terrific videos about him, including David Schwimmer discussing the stage version of Turkel's RACE that he directed.

Posted: 10/31/08 at 7:06pmStuds was a national treasure. I'd like to think he'll be smiling from above on Tuesday, he had endorsed his fellow Chicagoan Barack Obama. Also hope he voted already by absentee ballot!

RACE is an incredible book, as is WORKING.
Thank you, Mr. Terkel, for your contributions.

"I have also met him in person, and I find him to be quite funny actually. Arrogant and often misinformed, but still funny."
