Suggestions.....not Rent, Wicked.....

I live in manhattan and am a frequant flyer at certain shows. I would like to broaden my theatrical horizen and see some other shows. I want to see the shows that are not as well known (ex: Rent, Wicked....etc) maybe some off broadway. I don't want to waste my money on a show that sucks. What do you recommend? That is definatley one show that I know I want to see. I have been obsessed with the book since I was little.
