In 2000 i went to NY to see the Fantasticks and I absolutely loved the theatre it was in. I was wondering after the Fantasticks closed, what happened to the Sullivan Street Playhouse? Is it still a working theatre or did it close after the show left?
Thanks

I thought it was being converted to something other than a theater.

Don't make me cry...
I think there were rumors that it was going to be converted into a Sushi house a few years ago, but it still has the "Sullivan Street Playhouse" sign on it...I feel sad every time I walk past it...that show has a very very special place in my heart.

It seems pretty clear that was all talk and just a way of easing the show out of the theater. "The Fantasticks" had been operating on a very special rent scale due to its position as "longest running show in the history of the American theater," and the landlord was apoplectic. There was some sort of a deal made and the show closed. Now the theater is dark and it's a crying shame. It's a great space and should be used!

For forcing it to close, may the landlord be cursed with an empty space forever
I think with land being gold, it will probably be torn down & replaced with another bank which we need (not)
