Did anyone go to the opening of Summer Shorts at 59E59? I was thinking about going but if the Weitz, LaBute and Howe plays are worth seeing

I went to series A. All three were professionally done and well acted.
The Labute play, about two actresses awaiting an audition, was passable. It offers a few chuckles but isn't really insightful or incisive.
The second, about McCain choosing Palin as his running-mate, also has a few laughs, but is sorely undernourished. If fleshed out, it could make for an interesting play.
Several years ago Tina Howe wrote a beautiful play entitled Chasing Manet, starring Jane Alexander. All the more disappointing that her previous entry in Summer Shorts was awful, and so is this. It's a fractured fairy tale about a sleeping princess whom various folk try to awaken. It's a misfire from start to finish.
