Hey all. Here's what's up.
I have three big auditions coming up. 2 musicals, one striaght play. The musicals are Joseph and Fiddler. For Joseph, I'm auditioning for the Narrorator and for Fiddler one of the daughters. For fiddler we can't sing anything from the show. Any suggestions on what would be good for each audition? I sing soprano, so I need something that really showcases my talents. I can't sing Wicked, though...the directors even put that on the notice...perhaps a sign of gross overusage?
Anyway, for the straight play, I am unsure as how to prepare. I've read the script (The play is Rehearsal for Murder) and I know that we will be asked to read scenes with other audtionees, but I've never really done a straight play before, so I need advice.
PS...you may be feeling like you've read this before..you have, but I reposted because apparently the word Penguin in a post renders the reader unable to reply about anything other than how awsome penguins are.
Thank you all so much!!
For the musicals (Fiddler at least) maybe you can do "Home" from Beauty and the Beast, or if you can find it, "A Change in Me."
I like the Beauty and the Beast idea...
or you could try Mabel from Pirates of Penzance
or Cosette in Les Miserables
I think they are both Soprano I solos, which you didn't specify.
RENThead, enLIGHist, Ozalot, Grobanite, Ringer, Pickwick LW, Wicked, Lost, American Dreams, West Wing
Lea S. Hugh J. Adam P. Idina M. Matt M. Taye D.
The narrator is a belter - I wouldn't sing legit for this. You could sing another belty Webber song, maybe Evita.
Home is good only if you're auditioning to be Hodel to sing "Far From The Home I Love," otehrwise I would do a fun uptempo, because of "Matchmaker." Maybe "If Mama Was Married" from Gypsy as a solo.
Plays - read the full play. Know what you want in the scene, play with the other actor, have fun.
Think of me from POTO, Home (starting with "what I'd give" from B&TB..both are good for sopranos.

Home from B&B actually might be a good idea - it would show the mix/belt needed for the narrator, and yet it goes high enough if you want to use a bit of your soprano. It also has a good theme for Fiddler. What is this audition for? Your school? If so, it shouldn't be too overdone. But if this is a professional audition, I'd keep looking.
Thank you all so much. I guess I didn't specify, but I'm audtioning at the local community theatre for Fiddler and my school is doing Joseph. You guys are so nice to respond.
