I live in the DC area, so it's easy for me to take the train up to NYC to see shows, especially matinees. If I'm on a business trip to NYC, I try to stay overnight so I can catch a show. While I see a lot of shows in the DC area and we're lucky to have a lot of great regional and community theatres, there's just an extra energy sitting in a Broadway house right before the curtain goes up.
When I still lived in Atlanta I would make a trip to NY just for broadway. I would stay in a hostel to save money, and eat peanut butter sandwiches so I could see 8 shows.
