Sweeney Todd worth the money? Anyone know if Playbill extends the promotions? As of now cheaper tickets are only until April 30th. Should I wait for a July 1st show?

It's definitely worth it. It was easily one of the most amazing theatrical experiences of my life. For me, it is worth every penny.

You should do a search for "Sweeney" to get other thoughts. There have been at least a dozen threads on Sweeney in recent weeks. You'll be more likely to find in depth reviews that way.

Playbill often does add new promotions, and the show is frequently on TKTS. Unless you want the best available seat now or are one of those people who absolutely need to have everything planned out to the letter (like me), you'd probably be fine waiting.

I would have to agree. It was the first Broadway show I've ever seen, and I loved it.

(Of course, I knew the show very well going into the theatre, PLUS my dad and I got the TKTS same-day discounted tickets, so that helped...)

SWEENEY TODD IS WORTH WHATEVER THEY ARE CHARGING FOR IT!!!!!

::end ridiculous capitalization::

Almost everyone in the cast was brilliant from the start, and those that weren't grew into their roles extremely well an dare now as brilliant as all the others. Standouts include Patti as Mrs. Lovett, Michael as Sweeney, and Manoel as Tobias (semi-stole the show in my opinion. The new orchestrations are brilliant, as is the new staging. SEE THIS!

p.s. I swear that was not meant to sound shilly

Absolutely worth the money. It's like nothing you've ever seen before. I'd imagine that there would be a new promotion shortly after the current one expires.

I think if you can afford it, sitting close up makes a big, big difference, because you can see facial expressions. I sat in the rear mezz once, and then did SRO (back orchestra) and being closer made a really big difference for me.

Yes! Excellent show...my favorite Sondheim show, personally. I'd say get the closest best seats possible, but I've seen it in rear mezz and it's fine as well.

This show is amazingly brilliant and fantastic. Go see it. Of course it is awesome to be close to the people doing what they do, but I have sat in rear mezz. ($44 plus tax) and could see just fine. Totally woth the money.

They also sell student rush tickets for Tues-Thursday nights for $35... 2 hours before the show! I sat front of the mezzanine; perfect seats!

Ok I have seen Rent 4 times, the most I have ever seen a show on broadway, over the course of 3 years. In the course of 6 months, Sweeney is equal to that. These people just become more gratifying each time with well equipped understandings of the roles by now. They masterfully control that stage and by the end of the show, you know you just experienced something you typically don't get going to the theater anymore.

We sat last row center Mezz for $36 per and they were wonderful. Would love to have been closer, but the show would be wonderful from any vantage point. Brilliant is the only word that comes to mind. Perhaps the best theater experience that I have had in my many years.

it is a wonderful show. absolutely worth it, but if you really want to get the most out of it, pay very close attention. it does not suit casual, lazy theatregoers.

More worth 100 bucks than any other show on Bway right now (except maybe Phantom)

I would also recommend at least *some* familiarity with the plot, music and lyrics. There's a lot to take in, both because of Sondheim's lyrical style and because of the unconventional -- quite busy -- staging. You're probably more prone to get the most out of it if you do that.
