Posted: 7/5/05 at 10:40pmI saw a banner today that Sweeney Todd is playing in the Princeton Festival - in Lawrenceville...anyone know anything about this? Is it worth seeing there? The ticket prices are kind of hefty - and I saw the NY opera production last year.... (Please note, this is a question about THIS SPECIFIC PRODUCTION, I know and love Sweeney Todd, it's one of my favorite shows - I'm not asking generically if I should go see it).

Posted: 7/5/05 at 10:45pmThanks, Plum. The ticket prices are pretty high but I sat in a $25 seat and it was just fine. It's definitely worth seeing if you like an operatic take on Sweeney.

I saw it! my choir teacher took me to see it because she taught at that school and had friends/sung with a lot of people in the show. all i can say is WOW. I didn't really know Sweeney Todd so had nothing to compare it too except for "The worst pies in london" scene on PBS with Angela Landsbury. I was very impressed with the show esp. for this being their 1st show. It used to be an Opera company that was together for years, but then it kinda disapeared and died and out of it, came two new companys, this being one of them. If you were right in a "dead" section of the auditorium, where the balcony starts, it was a little hard to hear since they weren't miked, but all in all great. The judge acutally wasn't the orginal guy. The guy supposed to play the part hurt a tendent(don't remember medical name) during a dress rehursal so they brought this guy in who just did it in Philly and he only had 1/2 rehursals before they opened. I sat in the $50ish seats which was row N, stage left, asile and 3 seats in. I was very impressed personally and so were many professional singers I was with.

Cool - thanks - I'm going to try to go this weekend. For some reason the online ordering thing isn't working for me (could just be my computer though) -- good to know that the 25 dollar seats are OK in cast that's all that's available at the performance!
For a very local group -- to get to the school -- if I'm coming onto 206 from Nassau St. in Princeton, do I head north or south to get there? Anyone know?

It's south of downtown Princeton.
Gimme- Yes, I saw the same actor play Judge Turpin in the Arden Sweeney a few weeks ago. He's pretty good, but not quite evil enough (and his "Johanna" was not in, though in Princeton the tooth-pulling sequence was). I think he was wearing the same costume.
