I have a question. I just ran across this. Is it illegal for a website to post lyrics to the songs from Broadway shows? I didn't think of it before now but I don't know what the copyright rules are for this. With so many lyrics websites online I thought that it was legal but I just read something that says it isn't legal without permission. I don't want to ask anyone to do anything illegal on this website.

Is it illegal for just the lyrics posted on websites is the question. I know it is for the written lines of a musical, but since they release recordings of the musicals for sale to the general public is it considered illegal? Of course you could use the argument that if they sell videos then it would be ok to post the spoken parts too. I'm just so confused right now. Help! If we aren't allowed to copy the words then the cds should have to have the words to the songs in them in my humble opinion. A lot of the time you don't know if they do until you open them and sometimes the words are not that easily understood.
