I guess I've been so conditioned by the recent media blitzing strategies for both film versions of Dreamgirls and Hairspray...
...but does anyone else think it strange that very little has been leaked (either intentionally or not) from the forthcoming Sweeney Todd film?
Just the couple of snap shots of Depp in costume. No teaser trailer (yet). No shots of Helena or Sacha dressed up (or down, as the case may be). No snippets of the music.
By this time last year, we'd practically seen and heard all there was to see and hear about Dreamgirls. And Hairspray had plenty of production photos, behind-the-scenes video glimpses, audio sneaks, etc.
Hopefully this obviously intentional tactic will work. But they're either planning a big 4th quarter blitz, or this movie is going to tiptoe into theatres very quietly this Christmas.
I think we only got so much of Hairspray -so early, was due to filming on working streets of Toronto - so there was plently of attention from fans, papparazi, etc. That and the general interest from media in Travolta and his makeover.
Since Sweeney is/was being filmed entirely in doors at Pinewood Studios in London. It would be very hard for any leaks to get by.
MAY BE we will get a Sweeney teaser before Hairspray. I think that would be a great move.
Someone posted on the Sweeney Todd Myspace group that there is going to be some type of preview shown at San Diego Comic Con this year. It wasn't listed on the schedule (unless I missed it) but I'll be at Comic Con this year so I'll keep a look out for it.
I know, I'm just being impatient.
Anyway... here's photos of the cast, cobbled together, if that whets anybody's appetite. It's the closest we can get to seeing them all together for now!

I thinkt he fact that Sweeney is such a different kind of movie than Hair and Dream (and the studio maybe isn't even quite sure how to market it yet) plays a big part. While I know it's a big major production like both of those movies are I think maybe they're gonna market it more liek a straight drama/horror than a musical--and not leak out songs before, etc

I'd be surprised if there was a Sweeney Todd area at Comic-Con. Then again, it is a Tim Burton film. You know, it would be interesting if they created a graphic novel version of the story to go with the movie.
antiandrewx---Be sure to give us a full report from the SD Comic Con!

I actually thought that a preview would've came out with Harry Potter and before anyone says that they wouldn't put a preview for a movie that's likely to be rated R with a family movie clearly hasn't seen HP 5 or heard about the new film and the fact that it's very dark.
I'm thinking that a preview will come with Hairspray next week, but if it does come with it, it'll probably come out the after Comic Con.

I saw HP 5 and while the teen stuff made it more "mature" I didn't find it all that dark actually--and certainly couldn't see Sweeney havign a preview before it :P
They may be trying to avoid the overexposure that allegedly turned Oscar voters away from DREAMGIRLS. Or perhaps the studio decided that the film isn't worth promoting...hopefully it's the former.
How far are they into production of the movie?
Does anyone know?
Actually, It may already be finished. song recording was done before filming. I know filming finished a while ago. And I thought I heard something recently about the completed film having already been brought to the U.S. from the U.K. I may have even heard that here at BWW.
Did Variety not have a teaser poster in it, when production started?
I was very disappointed not to see anything attached to Harry Potter... but I guess it wasn't really right for it....
I still have high hopes for this film and am quite anxious to hear/see more about it!

I remember someone saying on here that they were trying to keep it secretive kinda like how Chris Nolan is trying to keep alot of The Dark Knight secretive even though alot of stuff has come out about that movie, but I think that since they've been finished with filming since early May, that it's time for at least more photos from the film. How about some actual stills from the movie.

ed sanders who plays toby is really young. i think he is like 13 or 14.
Well now i feel like a idoit, just found it on the internet when looking for a trailer and thought some fan had made it! ( must learn to read things first )
I'm pretty sure that principal photography wrapped several weeks ago.
I believe I read that ST is very dark and very bloody. Think a trailer before HAIRSPRAY and or HP is the wrong demographics.
