The cast sounds good, but what of this storytelling with instruments concept? 
Has Sondheim given this his approval seeing as how it is taking away all the blood and sweat (pun intended) he put into the original?

Posted: 7/2/05 at 7:35pmIf Sondheim had not given his approval this show would be going nowhere. It was critically successful in London so we will just have to wait and see how this version does on Broadway.

There are tons and tons of threads on this. Sondheim indeed loved the production and it's inventiveness in London is the only reason the Broadway revival is happening at this time.
How it works in NYC remains to be seen, but I think we can all be grateful that this revival attempts something new and different with the material.
