Sweet Charity-News eclipses actual Production in all major US engagements

I do not know if this is true or not, but everytime there has a major production of Sweet Charity the news surrounding it seems to overtake the actual production. With the Original the reopening of the Palace Theatre, 1986 revival- Fosse's death, 2005- the whole Christina/Charlotte/Replacing leads/closing/reopening. IS this true and can anyone think of other shows with similar situations?
