IWISHIHADATONY this is the first time I ever heard anyone refer to "Sweet Charity" as not being one of "the better musicals".
Maybe in some people's opinions (which they are certainly entitled to), but that is not the overall consensus onthis show.
The show is considered by the majority as a CLASSIC. The score is one of the best and one of the most infectious ever written for musical theatre and includes what have become two theatre standards:
If My Friends Could See Me Now
Hey, Big Spender
along with I'm A Brass Band, There's Gotta Be Something Better Than This, Rhythm of Life and The Rich Man's Frug are truly knock out numbers.
I dare anyone not walk out of a theatre without humming any one of the above.
I saw the 1986 revival starring Allen, Rupert, Neuwirth et al and it wasn't as awful as you always make it out to be.

Posted: 2/13/05 at 8:27amI share the concern that Ernie Sabella be given a bit more to do. Even though he is a supporting player, it would be a shame if CHARITY wasted his unique comic talents.
