Combining my love of classical music and theater, and actually being a classical musician, I absolutely agree with Glebb. CANDIDE is my all time favorite overture.
I also enjoy 42ND STREET and A CHORUS LINE's openings.
I love Wonderful Town's overture. It's so energetic and just puts a smile on my face. Gott give a shout out for Carousel's as well.
Hey Magruder, :)
This is a TRUE STORY.
NO, NO, NANETTE! Producer [Cyma Rubin]'s husband saw show for the first time while in previews.
After eight-minute(?) "Tea for Two" number, husband turned to wife and loudly stated "THAT NUMBER SHOULD BE CUT!!!"
Well, my favorite story involving No No Nanette are all of the tales of the girls falling off the beach balls in "Peach on the Beach".
Howdy Magruder, :)
YES! And the performer who stayed on her beach ball the BEST was original choice for Nanette [sorry, forget her name] who was promptly FIRED two weeks after rehearsals began because management perceived her singing voice was too weak! :)
I enjoy the ON THE TWENTIETH CENTURY overture with the train sounds interspersed. Very fun.
another vote for any of Jerry Herman's...also Gypsy and Funny Girl.

Hi Albin! Good to see you again!
(Can one whisper with exclamation points?)
Hi Wildparty... :)
I saw the original ON THE TWENTIETH CENTURY and LOVED the Overture!!!
It starts out slow, then it builds and builds... :)
Hey Albin, :)
GYPSY--Yes! You can almost discern the whole plot of GYPSY from its Overture. :)

the producers, on the recording, not the one in the theater....plus the Avenue Q theme

I LOVE YOUR SHOW POSTERS?
What do you charge for fellow Board Members? :)

I like the Overture to A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM too. You can just tell you're about to see an old-fashioned slapstick comedy.
