Is anybody else mortified by the thought of this becoming a musical??? Phil Collins??? Oh my!!! I think Disney should scratch it and replace it with a huge production of Hunchback of Notre Dame. Schwartz did a phenomenal job with the music for this film...
Thoughts???

From what I've read, Bob Crowley will totally revamp the inside of a theatre. It will be "environmental". Have you seen any clips of the Tarzan show at Animal Kingdom? It uses bungy cords and all sorts of high action stunts. I hope they actually have characters sing (I guess there is a singing Narrator - a.Pascal in the reading)and add more book songs. If they remove some the cliched movie dialogue that plagues the other Disney stage shows, it could be an interesting theatrical experience.

Disney scratched plans to bring The Hunchback to English speaking audiences. What's funny is the German cast learned the complete musical in English - then learned to sing it phonetically in German. So, the whole thing was written in English first, then translated, so you'd think it would be ready to go.
Latest reports say that they are going to film the musical for TV. So weird, because IMO it is better (by far) than any musical Disney has staged to date. I wonder if the failure of Notre Dame de Paris had anything to do with it.

Posted: 11/23/04 at 3:59pmI'm actually excited to see this. As crazy as it sounds, monkey men flying through trees, and mermaids not swimming (for Little Mermaid) sound quite odd, but I also remember asking myself, and others, how the Lion king would EVER work on stage. I think it will be interesting to see!

Posted: 11/23/04 at 4:00pmDisney is beinga pain with hunchback because the movie didn't do as well here as it did in germany. the stage, however, is FAR different from the movie. Disney is also reluctant because it is a darker piece and doesn't have the cliche happy ending.

First, remove that image. It distorts the page.
Second, Disney is not stupid. If they plan to do TARZAN, then there must be logic behind it. They have a plan.

"Schwartz did a phenomenal job with the music for this film"
He didn't write a single note. It was Alan Menken.
Schwartz did the lyrics.
