TEN IN TEN Relief - for Hurricane Katrina victims#0

Hi Everyone,

As a few of you know, my husband Michael and I consider New Orleans a home away from home. It is where we have spent a lot of time the last few years. It is where I performed (earning my Equity card) and was embraced by the theatre community. It is where friends became my family.

What has been happening there is heartbreaking to me. Every fiber of my being wants to travel to The Big Easy and help in any way I can. However, the thing they need most of all right now is money. The American Red Cross needs money. And they need it ASAP.

So I have an idea.

I call it Ten In Ten. I would like to raise $10,000 in 10 days. September 6 - 15. And I am working with two corporate sponsors right now who are possibly going to match the amount if we make our goal. What does that mean? If we raise $10,000, they will each donate $10,000 as well and that means $30,000! If we are able to make an arrangement with two more sponsors, then we will be able to donate $50,000!

To my New York friends:
Right now, on and off-broadway, there are 50 shows running. If we were able to raise $200 per show (that's right, just $200!), well...that makes $10,000! It is that easy. Of course, I will gladly accept any amount. Some shows are one-person shows while others have 30+ in the cast and crew. I think that it will all even out in the wash if we give from our hearts. And, if you have any contacts or ideas for sponsors, that would be great too!

To my friends beyond New York:
Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated! And that includes any corporate sponsors you may have connections with.

Finally, I do not want cash. I will only take checks, made out to The American Red Cross. This will ensure that your donation, every penny of it, goes straight to those in need.

I am hoping to have a poster and a jar backstage at each show by Tuesday, Sept 6 (Jason Courson of CoursonDesigns.com is generously donating his design expertise and KINKO'S on W 47th has donated reproduction of the posters - thank you!!!). I have also set up a website, in case anyone would like to deliver (in New York) or mail their donation.

Today, two wonderful people in my life, Scott Alan (composer and producer) and Larry Feeney (creator of theAtrainplays) offered their theatres and talents to create concerts to benefit Ten In Ten.

Here is the info:

Monday, Sept. 12 - 9:30pm
After Monday Nights, New Voices at The Duplex Cabaret in NYC, a concert will benefit TEN IN TEN. Performers include: Felicia Finley, Marty Thomas, Sara Schmidt, Nikki Renee Daniels and me (Julie Garnye).

Thursday, Sept. 15 - 10pm
After that night's performance of theAtrainplays at The Neighborhood Playhouse (the show is a part of NYMF), some of the stars of that show, as well as others, will perform to benefit TEN IN TEN.
