THE BALD SOPRANO

The Atlantic Theater Company is performing an evening of two one-acts by Eugene Ionesco, THE BALD SOPRANO & THE LESSON.

This is a fine evening of theatre, very well produced and deliciously acted by a very strong cast comprised mostly of Broadway actors. THE BALD SOPRANO is especially noteworthy and quite funny. Director Carl Forsman is to be commended for his precise and delicately timed work.

These plays are over 50 years old and never show their age. LA CANTATRICE CHAUVE has been playing in Paris for nearly 50 years, presently at the Teatre de la Huchette.

These plays are performed in an English translation by Tina Howe.

Ionesco paved the way for Joe Orton, Ed Albee, Harold Pinter, Sam Shepherd, David Mamet, among others.

I highly recommend this evening if you care to experience something to stimulate your brainwaves and your funnybone.

The Atlantic Theater Company is located on West 20th Street between 8th and 9th Avenues.

Ionesco's one of my favorite playwrights and I already have my tickets for this double bill for next week. I'm really looking forward to it.

Ionesco's plays were once everywhere but for the last decade or so he's been the forgotten Romanian. Hopefully this signals a revival of interest!
