Fox Home Entertainment has announced The History Boys which stars Richard Griffiths. The film is based on the celebrated stage play that ran at the National Theatre in London from May 2004 until April 2005 and won more Tony Awards® than any other play in the past 50 years. The film will be presented in anamorphic widescreen, along with an English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround track. Extras will include an audio commentary by Director Nicolas Hytner and Writer Alan Bennett, a History Boys Around the World: The Tour Diaries feature, and a Pass it On: The History Boys on Screen behind-the-scenes featurette.

Posted: 2/13/07 at 7:14pmTHANK GOD! I've been suffering withdrawal since I saw it in December, and it can't be released soon enough... Thought it sucks that they have to do it while I'm in Israel! Couldn't they do it two weeks earlier?

Thanks for posting about this! I've been checking a lot lately for a US date. To those who missed the film's theatrical release (or the play itself, though the two are a little different), definitely pick this up! It's a rare opportunity to see a celebrated original cast anytime you want, in a brilliant Alan Bennett work no less.
ETA: Capn, I believe you mean the 17th...

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I can't wait that long. *whimpers* I want my History Boys now! April...phooey.
Althought the bonus features sound great! Maybe there'll be some DCI Darwood episodes!

i'm so excited
i'm going through a serious withdrawl from the boys and the radio recording isn't giving me the satisfaction the 3 times i saw in in theatres during a week span gave me

Those who favor the advertising for the stage production probably won't go for it, but I suppose it's perfectly in line with the film's marketing. And fun to look at, anyway.

Posted: 3/2/07 at 8:57pmIs that the real cover art to be released because I've seen that used earlier when discussing the dvd's release in the future but not to order. Either it is a teaser cover and won't be used or that is the real deal and I love the decision!
