I hear this is available from Musical Theatre International... Anyone done it? How long is it? Any info at all about it? Where is it on their website?
I read a large article on Seussical in American Theatre, and there was an entire part to Seussical that was cut, which was the story of The Lorax, and they have recently took that part and made it into a smaller show on it's own with the rights available.
Correct - there is a cut musical number called "The Lorax" which was only ever incorporated into the Boston pre-Broadway tryout. I agree with the decision to cut it. Just another unnecessary subplot/story. Stick with the Horton and Jojo stories and make everything else support it. Don't use Lorax, whether MTI licenses it as optional or not.
Yes, THE LORAX is a different type of show. It is actually a one act show that is only 10 minutes long, it's a musical with a small pit, but the show is like $400-500 just for the rights. I think it is outrageous to pay that much just for a 10 minute one act... It did seem cute though. Our school does a series of one acts every year in the winter so we really wanted to do THE LORAX as a step into SEUSSICAL which was our musical last year. But since the rights were so expensive, we had no chance in performing that show
But it also was part of the Seussical show originally.
Has anyone applied, seen or perfomed this cut?
