Follies has already extended until November 13th, so keep an eye on it as perhaps it will extend again.
If you like the show, I'd recommend seeing it even if you've seen it in NYC. I just came from the production and seeing it in a very intimate space with thrust staging is a completely different experience, one well worth having IMHO.

^^I would really doubt another extension. Now there are only two weeks between Follies's closing and the next shows opening. If it extended again, there would be just one week for load in and tech on their next show. But I completely agree with you about the production.
If you want to get a sense of what Chicago theatre is like, avoid Broadway in Chicago as it presents national tours, which are precisely the opposite of theatre specific to the area. Hottix is a good place to look when starting out, and you'll find some really nice deals there. Don't limit yourself to that, however, because most theaters here have much more modest ticket prices than in New York, and the big equity theaters that charge a bit more (but still, you'd rarely have to pay much more than $50 if you plan it right) have discount programs, not always limited to students.
I would suggest Pippin at Boho. They always do really great work. Also, Profiles Theatre is doing the midwest premiere of A Behanding in Spokane by Martin McDonagh and is certainly worth checking out as its a great play.
