I've heared that NYU is currently a HORRIBLE theatre school from A LOT of people.
um i am at the professional summer program RIGHT NOW and i am having the BEST summer of my entire life... these teachers are amazing!!! We end aug 6th and it's the CAP21 program. One of my teachers is Alix Korey =D Updated On: 7/25/04 at 11:28 PM
Amneris, are you in the high school program? I am thinking about applying for next summer... how is it? How was the application process and all that... DETAILS PLEASE! lol

I'm not in the HS program hehe...Im in the professional program. Our application process was much different..They open the prof. program to all the TISCH kids first for credit..and then whatever spots are left, they take in a certain number of us not from NYU. I had to write a huge essay, send in all my transcripts, grades, recommendation letters, Headshots/Resume/, Interview and fill out an application..We dont audition until we are accepted and thats the first day which is placement auditions... The HS kids have to AUDITION to get into the summer program. I LOVE it. I wouldn't trade this summer for anything. People have to realize tisch is made up of 8 different studios.. CAP is the musical theater division...they aren't out to make Meryl Streeps of everyone but, they are out to take a singer/dance and make them act the **** out of a song.. and take an actor who isnt so much a singer and make the audience think they are a singer by acting words on pitch. Personally, I'd rather see someone who cant sing quite as well acting the **** out of a song then see someone who sounds incredible and looks like a dead fish.

Tisch isn't looking for Sutton's and Idina's? I was contemplating applying for musical theatre there. And if that didn't work out, they allow you to choose to be considered for acting instead. But now, I am!
NYU isn't bad and neither is Tisch, it's just CAP that is for voice. For acting, anything in Tisch is amazing, but you'll get good acting and great voice (dancing lacks a little) from School of Ed. They aren't looking for Idina's? She graduated from Tisch in acting: they liked her then...

Were the placement auditions diffcult? Do you know if they have scholarships or if everyone has to shell out the 3 grand? I would love to hear more!
the summer session does NOT offer scholarships. The placements were pretty easy... They split you up by years of training to learn a ballet/jazz combo and then you got a number and had to dance for the judges..then we broke for lunch and were given a time to come back and do a monologue/2 songs (uptempo/ballad) and that was it...
