I just listened to it and was wondering how the boat "exploded" and why the end was so much like Beauty and the Beast's entr'acte. Also, how does Eric fall 'overboard' and how does Ariel save him?

I don't think it "explodes". From the sound of it, he just falls overboard.

SPOILER! Sean runs offstage (from the ship deck) and his body double (in a harness) runs on. The ship is lifted into the flies as the boy double "falls" from the ship deck. He is lowered so that Sierra can reach him as she is gliding alond the stage. She pushes him up and he is flown into the flies. The front wave comes on as Sean is brought on by a track from stage right. After the body double is out of view, Sean rolls out and he is on land.

SPOILER! No, there is no body double for Ariel during the storm, but she does have a body double at the end of Act I and when she is captured by Ursula at the end.

I noticed several musical similarities between stuff in Mermaid and stuff in Beauty. Especially in "Les Poissons". I kept expecting a dancing candlestick ~ SOOO much like "Be Our Guest" in several places.

I thought the same thing about "Les Poissons" and "Be Our Guest". During the "chaos" section following the dinner, I actually found myself singing along to "Be Our Guest" in my head, to the "Les Poissons" music. I never realized how similar they actually were.

No....the cast recording is available at the theater. They began selling it Friday night or Thursday. Don't remember which. A friend of mine works merch. there.
