Anyone else read about this.
All I can say is how stupid this is. Please....TNN wants to name their network after him????? What kind of drugs is he on. Considering no one goes to see his films, why would anyone want to name a whole network after him. Unless their is some documentation that says "Hey..we'll names Spike TV after Spike Lee",then I can't believe that it's got this far.
I think Mr. Lee (from past appearees) has quite an ego and thinks too highly of himself. Get over it Spike. The world, or at least tv, doesn't revolve around you!

I think they want to rename the network "Spike TV" to appeal to the young male demographic. Go figure as to why. Spike Lee didn't like this idea and sued to stop it, saying that it infringed on his name somehow. So now there's a temporary injunction stopping the name change pending a trial or full hearing or something.
Your main point, about Mr Lee's ego, may be true. I thought that he was pretty egotistical to think that it was about him in the first place.

I don't watch it either. The only reason I knew all that was because my partner is a TV audience researcher -- you know, Neilsen ratings and all that. So things TV are items for conversation in our house. :)

So nice to see that after a day insulting board members here, some people still have high morals.
I don't think the fact that you would watch TNN is the question here. I think it's more that one person thinks the world (i.e horney macho men) is so enamored with him that they would actually think someone would name something after them beacuse they are so admired. Cinderella, time to get out of the castle!
Get off it Lee. Do we see the relatives of Spike Jones suing TNN? How about Gary Marshall who had on Fonzie's cousin "Spike"? What about bandleader Spike Mulligan? What about the Ameicam Volleyball Association who could claim that TNN is stealing their term "Spike" because horny men love volleyball?
"That's not the point" you say.
Oh really?

I've read about it, but still can't take it seriously. It reads more like a story from the Onion than real news. Get real Spike!
Will he sue us for starting a thread with his name?

Posted: 6/22/03 at 3:16pmI wonder how much of the whole thing is "spin" to call attention to the name change. Spike Lee could have been joking about it (he used to be known for outrageous statements, before he settled down a bit) and they could have turned that into a "suit" as sensationalist reporters often do.

I personally don't care what that egomaniac Spike Lee thinks, I don't care if he and this moronic network battle it out in court. W@hat bothers me is that the "women's" networks on tv usually have health related shows, badly written but sometimes interesting movies, shows that educational, etc. When they develop a network for men it's going to be filled with cartoon strippers, movies about macho guys blowing things up and killing people and a show where women who are referred to as The Juggies jump up and down on trampolines.
Thanks TNN but I'll stick to cartoon network, hgtv, travel channel and hbo

Posted: 6/22/03 at 7:21pmvariety is the spice of life. The fallacy might be that a particular demographic would watch one channel predominantly, or that one channel would attract only one demographic. In truth, people follow the shows, not the network brand. That's why all those NBC crime shows repeat all over syndication and make money everywhere they are placed.
