What are your thoughts about this musical? What are the parts like, and do you think it could be done well in local theatre?
My company is doing this next spring and I'm curious about it.

The show isn't especially good and it waters down the parts that made it interesting to Who fans. It can be energetic and fun but there really isn't anything there of any depth or worth.
Good luck with the show -- Tommy tends to be insanely expensive and not sell the amount of tickets people think it will.

Posted: 3/9/04 at 2:17pmI saw it with the OBC my senior year in high school....I LOVED it. I love the music and find myself resurecting the cd more then most broadway CD's I have.

Posted: 3/9/04 at 6:42pmI fell in love with that show after my school performed it. It's a great show. I do prefer the Who's CD as opposed to the OBCR however, but I LOVE the song "I Believe My Own Eyes" which is not on the Who's CD. I gotta listen to the OBCR for that one.

I also love "I Believe My Own Eyes".
I did the show at a commuity theater when I was younger. I got a callback for Young Tommy, but wasn't cast. The show was great, though---I love the music, and like someone else said. If cast correctly, the show can be really powerful.

As one who grew up with The Who's album (my big brother's, actually), I also love the show. The original album came out almost 35 years ago! A theatre here in Austin performed it a few years ago and they did a terrific job. They went all out with creative costumes, definitely something you can do with this show if you have the resources.
Keep in mind that child abuse and molestation play an important part in the plot when deciding if Tommy is right for your audience.

I thought Tommy was amazing! From the set design to the acting/singing, it was inspiring.
Fascinating message of forgiveness at the end.
I'm sad I only saw it once.
