I'll be there!!
Hating having to choose between At this Performance and Freestyle Love Supreme, but consoling myself with the fact that I'll get a little FLS at Don't Quit on Thursday night. :)

I would have loved to go because I love Krysta and Haven. But, my family did passover seders a bit screwed up this year due to my brother coming home from a semester in Rome. We had seder one on saturday and are having sader two today so I can't go.
It would have been great to finally get to one of these because I used to preform in that theatre and it would have been interesting to see something in a space that I used to perform in. And to see my two favorite ensemble members on one stage and it would have been my only chance to get a glimpse of Haven as Elle.

Posted: 4/21/08 at 12:49pmI think I prefer when the actors pick their own songs to sing, rather than the show songs. So many people have such different ranges and talents, and they sometimes don't get to showcase them in the shows they are doing. For performances like tonight, they really get to show off (in a good way!).

Posted: 4/21/08 at 4:23pmOh no, I totally enjoy the doing of the show songs, esp if it's someone who u/s an actor with a great attendance record, it might be the only time to hear someone else do the song.

Posted: 4/21/08 at 5:41pmI enjoy the show songs too! I just mean it's cool that they can do both, but esp to pick a song they know they are good at.

Genius show tonight! The songs from their shows that were performed:
- Annie Funke "Good Morning Baltimore" Apparently she landed the standby Tracy role a month after moving to NY? Good for her. Very adorable.
- Jason Dula "When the Earth Stopped Turning." Ok this is what I love about this concert series: I have never seen/heard him before tonight; I am now in love. This song, this singer, it was just...brilliance. Committing this name to memory, I want to see him onstage again like now.
- Doreen Montalvo "Paciencia y Fe." To repeat what I said in gthe Heights thread, omg amazing, I desperately want to see Doreen go on as Abuela some night. Fierce.
- Andrew Samonsky "Younger than Springtime"
- Haven Burton "So Much Better," who brought James Sampliner along with her to play her piano, hee. :)
- Jenifer Foote "Dance: 10, Looks: 3"
- Bret Shuford "Her Voice"
- Lisa Howard "Bali Ha'i" Ok can we discuss for a sec the genius that is the fact that Lisa Howard is an understudy for Bloody Mary in South Pacific? (Technically second understudy, I guess?) Anyway, she said herself she doesn't think she'll ever actually get to go on and perform this number, so it was great to be able to hear her do it tonight.
- Krysta Rodriguez "It Won't Be Long Now"
Everyone was great, and their choose your own numbers were all great....sorry, I feel like I started falling asleep halfway thru writing this, I will be back to add more later. :)

Her "So Much Better" was fine- I've actually seen Haven go on as Elle, (as well as Krysta go on as Vanessa), so it wasn't like I was hearing those two with their songs for the first/only time last night. Sorry, I know I sound a little unenthused- Haven's totally fine, but it's no secret she's not my favorite Elle.
I thought Haven's "Embraceable You," though, was TOTALLY brilliant, and such an excellent choice. And after the new shoes story, and then the 'bless you' mid-song, from the stage, to the sneeze from the audience, she completely had the crowd in the palm of her hand- she's got *amazing* stage presence.
