I LOVED LOVED LOVED Taboo. Not my favorite show (that's a special place reserved for AIDA *cries*) but I thought that even with its flaws (mainly in the book, as we all know) it was really wonderful. I thought that score was one of the best and most beautiful in a pretty long time, and that the show was PERFECTLY cast... well, maybe with the exception of George.

My favorite show ever? Well, I don't have one actually, I have two.
1.) Phantom of the Opera--This was the first musical I ever heard, the first cast recording I ever bought, and the first staged musical I have ever seen. This was the musical that brought me to the world of theatre and the reason I am on this message board tonight. This musical is glorious and should be appreciated for all it's wonder for the rest of time (A little dramatic, but it's late
)
2) RENT--This musical changed me forever, literally. I had certain views about certain things (homosexuals, etc.) and now because of RENT I have a completely new view of things. This musical opened my eyes and made me see things differently. Also, this was the first musical since POTO that made me go "wow" and appreciate the art form of the musical and made/still makes me want to pursue theatre as my future.
To the TABOO question, I have never seen it but the cast recording is one of my favorites and stays busy in my car stereo. LOVE IT!!!!!
Just to let you know, Nicola........this is about as serious as you probably will ever see me. LOL. I just finished watched Angels in America and I am in a serious mood. Will be gone tomorrow, I promise. WELCOME TO THE BOARDS

I could never in my life pick a "favorite show ever" but (when dealing specifically with Broadway productions I have seen) I would put them in the following order: Les Miserables, Avenue Q, Taboo. (Although if you want a full tally of everything I've seen, it would be herehttp://www.geocities.com/mynameispurpose/theater.html">here) I would also consider Blood Brothers to be up in that list but it's not Broadway so...right.
Anyway, yes I did see Taboo. Actually I saw it 8 times from the middle of January through its closing, including both performances on its closing night. I absolutely adore it. I thought it was such a solid cast of incredibly talented people. It was different, the score was fresh and fantastic. Each time I saw it I found myself becoming more and more attached to the storyline, the music, the characters, and the phenomenal actors which portrayed them. I am a whole hearted supporter of the show, although unlike a lot of people, when I went to the UK and saw their tour production I didn't really like it even though so many people thought it was fantastic.
I specifically thought the Broadway production had some better numbers in it, including my personal favorite, "The Fame Game" which I could listen to forever on repeat. There is no one who was a part of that show who disappoints, and I thank the world that I had the chance to see it as many times as I did. I can only wish I had gotten to see it more. It solidified me as a fan of those cast members, most specifically Euan Morton who caught my attention and who I adore and would go see in anything he ever does.
...I don't know if that's a good enough answer but I'll expand if you need me to.

Taboo is my ultimate favorite show ever.
EVER.
It spoke to me in ways I can't even describe in this feeble message.
I got so much from it that I'll always take with me, like about being an outcast, loving yourself, being true to your inner self.
It's helped me come to terms with myself and just so much in my world.

LOL bythesword! You have just described my own Taboo experience! I, too, saw it 8 times from January to February and attended the two final performances. You summed it all up perfectly. Every word you said...it's the same for me. The only difference is that I didn't see the UK tour. I was actually in London while Taboo was still playing at the Venue but I was pathetically unaware. I'll be kicking myself for a loooong time...
Anyway, yeah. Taboo touched me in a way I can't explain. I'll always be grateful for that.

Oh wow, my heart did a leap when I saw this thread! Woo hoo, THIS is going to be FUN! So here goes...
My favorite musical of all time is Cabaret (the revival version). I could see that show every day of my life and still not get tired of it.
Okay, to answer your question, yes, I did see Taboo! I had actually been looking forward to seeing the show the WHOLE summer before it opened. I was in New York the whole summer before, and was dying to see the one and only Raul Esparza. I kept missing him here and there. So FINALLY I take a long holiday to the city for Thanksgiving. The very first night I was here, I saw it. Seeing Raul on stage was like seeing sheep eat grass. It's what they do best. As for the musical, there where SO many things I loved, especially the music. I also think the cast contributed a great deal to this show. They made you fall in love with the characters, and each actor is highly talented and contributed something to their characters that I couldn't help but to love them. Okay, I also loved the costumes. Hello, they where SO much fun. Plus, I am a sucker for Dr. Martens, and EVERYBODY wore Docs at one point or another. One thing I didn't like about the musical was that I felt like everyone was fighting for time in the spotlight. There were SO many characters it got difficult to keep up with all of them and remember how they were all connected.

Posted: 10/6/04 at 1:17amMy favorite show is a three way tie between RENT, tick, tick... BOOM! and Les Miserables. I love them all for some many special reasons that I can't describe. And Taboo? Well, words can't describe how much love Taboo either. :)

My favorite show is Cabaret, but Taboo ranks high up there. Words can't do it justice. The heart, "freaks," brilliant score, costumes, and actors made up for any shortcomings in the production. Everyone was outstanding-- even George as time went on. He got more set and comfortable. Come on, he's not an actor, and here's his life getting picked apart by the critics and naysayers while he has to relive his life onstage every night. There are many brilliant lyrics, but I'd have to say these sum up my life at this point in time:
"And just when you think you're out there on your own
You see yourself in someone else's eyes
And if they said that you could never love yourself
It was a lie"
Sounds corny to an outsider, but it's truly beautiful in context. Find George's autobiography if you can. It's a wonderful read, and I ended up falling for the real Philip as well.

Ok here i go..
RENT: First show I fell in love with, listened to all through middle school and High School. Always hold a special place in my heart. The OBC is like no other, so unique. It is hands down my favorite show.
Cabaret was always in my top 10. It has been slowly growing in rank! I love being able to discuss the show for hours with Emcee about all its multiple meanings, it has such depth. Not to meantion the amazing score. It is truely a masterpiece. Oh and Emcee we are due for another discussion!!
Taboo: Should have won for best score at the Tony's. I love Ave Q, it deserved its Best Musical win, but in comparing the score it was no competition in my book. The songs in Q are cute. But i was blown away by the beauty of it Taboo's score.

I think it closed because Rosie didn't properly present/market it.
1. Should have released CD wayyy eralier, music was great and would have attracted people.
2. Should have been in smaller house to start out.
3. Should have offered discount tickets to get people IN the house so they could see it and spread the word. Most of the time the house was like 1/2 empty. Get people in those empty seats with discount tickets and they would have gotten the word out on how great the show was!!!
It's a shame it didn't run longer - was a great show, and I've seen many on Broadway....
