Very true, taptap. I think it was made into more of a tap routine inthe film version, because Charles McGowan (who plays Mike in the film) is such a phenomenal tapper.

Josephine- I also think people think of it as a tap number because of the wonderful tap dancing on the recording by Michael Bennett.
Mary Poppins "Step In Time" is a pretty long sequence of tap. But yeah 42nd St. and Anything Goes are the two that I always think of.

There are tap numbers in MANY shows! Mary poppins, shrek, something rotten, a chorus line, billy Elliot, anything from the 20s-40s, Newsies, sometimes the bird number in little mermaid,
