My school is doing Tartuffe(the play, not the opera) in the fall. I was wondering if anyone knows anything about the characters in this show. I'm trying to figure out which part I should go for. Can anyone help me?

Are you male or female? What type?

The two main male roles are Orgon, a rather foolish rich man (middle-aged), and Tartuffe, a fellow who seems to be a religious zealot, but is a total phony. Orgon supports him financially and opens up his home to him. Orgon would like Tartuffe to marry his daughter, but Tartuffe is secretly fooling around with Orgon's young second wife. Other male roles include Orgon's brother and the boyfriend of Orgon's daughter.

Female roles include Orgon's wife, the daughter, his elderly mother, and Dorine, the maid. Dorine is kind of a smart aleck who observes everything going on. It is one of the best roles in the play.
