Techniques for Voice Strengthening

Are there any good techniques or methods for strengthing ones voice? Singing and speaking?

You should explain what you mean by strengthening ...

Just don't try too much without a good voice teacher, so you don't mess up your voice.

re: Techniques for Voice Strengthening

I went to a vocal strengthening expert once, and this was one of the excercises she had me do...

start at an F above middle C, and very softly sing the syllable, "Hee." sustain it for as long as you can (do not exceed 60 seconds) with absolutely no vibrato. it will start to sound really weird...a sort of ringing in your ears. go up to F#, then G, then G# then A. stop at A. go back down again.

the longer you can sustain the notes, the stronger your voice (both singing and speaking) will be.

and NEVER speak in the gravely voice we all have in the morning. warm up every morning with those things so that you don't damage your voice at all (I, myself, am anal rentitive about those things).

hope this helps!

Find a good voice teacher, do vocal warm-ups and vocalize every day. Also do breathing excercises to help strengthen your abdomenal muscles. Find a book of warm-ups to use. A good book to use is the Franz Abt: Practical Singing Tutor. You can buy this book in the edition for your specific voice type. The best way to improve your singing is to learn the classical technique and then apply it to the style you are singing. I hope this helps. I teach some private voice, and used to teach High School Chorus, so I will glad to answer any questions that you have (if I can).
