Hello all! Does anyone know if this writer is gay or not? Just wondering because I'm doing a paper on him for school. I know some of his work has some gay issues/people in them. I was just wondering if anyone knows! Thanks!
~Trent
PS: Gay issues i'm referring to is his work on Kiss of the Spiderwoman and Love!Valour!Compassion! Any other works i will soon find out!

He's not only gay, and out, but he recently had a wedding ceremony (in Vermont?), reported in the NY Times. Do a Google search or just go to the NY Times site. He married a new partner. His lover of many years, Gary Bonasort, also a writer, died of AIDS a couple of years ago. As far as I know, McNally was out as far back as the 60s. It's not commonly known, but he had a long, torrid affair with Edward Albee, when Virginia Woolf was being written. Make of that what you will. McNally is in recovery but has had lung cancer.

Anyone who has info or some websites, feel free to PM me! I'm currently scoping out what IBDB has. (Thanks, Mr. Roxy.)

If you are considering all of McNally's work, don't forget the gay influences in "The Ritz" and "Corpus Christi".

If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

Not to mention ANDRE'S MOTHER, LIPS TOGETHER TEETH APART, THE FULL MONTY, THE LISBON TRAVIATA, IT'S ONLY A PLAY and his screenplay for FRANKIE & JOHNNY.

Hey all! Thank you for your continued help! I still have a couple of questions along my research....
"A Perfect Ganesh", "The Lisbon Traviata", "Lips Together,Teeth Apart", and "Corpus Christi".
-Why didn't these shows make it to NYC (Broadway)?
-Where did each of the above shows have its World Premiere?

-Who did Terrence have love interests/affairs with? I know he is currently married to Thomas Kirdahy.

-What did Terrence do towards Kander/Ebb's sho "The Visit"?

-What is/are the differences in his writings of the screen play and play of Frankie and Johnny.....?

-Why was there a big gap between the film(1987) and the B'way show (2002)?

Thanks people for your help!! It's greatly appreciated!!

Terrence premiered many of his plays at Manhattan Theater Club before he was HUGE. At that time I guess MTC didn't have the money to produce anything on Broadway and The Perfect Ganesh and Lips were just suppose to be limited runs at MTC. Lips was the last show of the season (the season it was produced at MTC) and was actually extedded until the new season began in September. They had scheduled shows for their new season and that show was doing so well they transfered it to a larger theater downtown.

I thought LIPS transferred in a commercial production off Broadway? The second LISBON was also a stand alone commerical production wasn't it? None of these plays was as commercial as McNally's big hits and they played better (and longer) off Broadway. The gay themes probably kept a lot of them off Broadway as well. CORPUS CHRISTI was very controversial. It was cancelled by MTC and then they changed their minds and produced it but they had metal detectors for the audience to pass through before entering the theater. CORPUS didn't get very good reviews. Mc Nally opened up play FRANKIE & JOHNNY for the film and added the gay next door neighbor played by Nathan Lane. The revival was only done on Broadway because they had two names (Edie Falco and Stanley Tucci) that would sell well enough on Broadway.
