Has anyone yet seen THAT PRETTY PRETTY (or THE RAPE PLAY) at Rattlestick Theatre? Just attended tonight and it was such a relief and very funny. In its final weeks.
Warning, it is sexual, violent, theatre of the absurd, with purposefully offensive dialogue and themes (rape, murder, language, degradation of women, and Jane Fonda).
It is partly non-linear and several pieces of writing are individual "pieces" within the overall package. Be prepared for New York City Off-Broadway to offer you a hefty helping of OFF-Broadway, with emphasis on the obscure.
Nonetheless, an entertaining evening with such dedicated young actors and very solid performances, staging and production-value.
The dinner-scene of THAT PRETTY PRETTY gives the dinner-scene of AUGUST OSAGE COUNTY a run for its money!
Lisa Joyce is quickly becoming one of my favorite NYC actresses under 30 (had previously seen her in BEAST and the nat'l tour of DOUBT). Scene-stealer in this as well.
Sat front row, so got some red Jello and feathers on me (no worries). Was my first Rattlestick experience... pleasantly surprised at the location and size of the house.
