I think that's what is known as a Double-Doodle-Ditto.

Strangely enough in the Australian revival of this production, they have a white man playing the king. He even tries to put on a stereotypical English-as-a-second-language Asian accent, but unsuccessfully.

Give me claws and a hunch, just away from this bunch.

I saw it with Faith Prince. She was playing it like it was a sitcom. She was delivering her lines like she was a wisecracking, gum chewing flapper rather than a British teacher.

Jean Harlow as Mrs. Anna was Faith's take on the material.

The Australian production ( think) put up the 1996 Broadway cast recording on Soundcloud, linked below.

Yes, having white man Teddy Tahu Rhodes in the Australian production was an odd choice. Thankfully they had Asian actors, including Lou Diamond Phillips, for the Melbourne run at least.

By the time I saw the tour, it starred Jill Van Velzer (who was great) and Lego Louis (who was not very good). The set was reduced to mostly drapes and backdrops. It certainly lacked the majesty and grandeur the production had on Broadway.

Did anyone see the tour from 2004 with Sandy Duncan and Martin Vidnovic? The sets were breathtaking in their scale and opulence, but pretty much everything else about the production was mediocre at best.

I wish I had seen the Walnut Street production in 2011. My friend played the King opposite Rachel York.

I believe the Duncan tour featured scenery by Kenneth Foy, who is greatly skilled at created creating grandeur with simplicity. His designs are on his website,

I never saw the downsized version of the 1996 production, though I am certain Van Velzer was wonderful. Now I want to hunt for more production photos...

I saw the tour with Maureen McGovern.. was that based on the revival?
