My wife & I saw The Apple Tree today & were pleasantly surprised
On a scale of 10, we gave it a 9. After awhile, you really do not miss the lack of scenery in Adam & Eve. There is more scenery in The Lady Or The Tiger & a little less in Passionella. They do a neat bit of staging in The Lady or The Tiger which I will not spoil for you
The performances were uniformly excellant. The theater needs a major renovation & it could become a jewel. They need to remove the Studio 54 stud lighting upstairs. The proscenium also needs repair work
Most of the upstairs was filled with a few empty seats evident. If you have a chance to see it, go as it is quite entertaining
My wife stood out as she wore her bright yellow "Slut" T shirt (it was an off broadway show gang). She acquitted herself with honors wearing it & turned many a head as a slutty redhead

I didn't care for it, although I thought Marc and Brian's performances were stand-out. I found the book to be weak (ditto with most of the songs) and Kristin to be too...Kristin. And I saw the show because of her, but I quickly found her schtick to be tiresome.
I'm glad you enjoyed it though. Was the audience responsive?
They enjoyed it very much & it got a standing O

& it got a standing O
Doesn't every show now?
yes, it's in the tourist's contract.
No as a few shows I have been at did not get one

I've only seen Marc Kudisch live and that was in Beauty and the Beast (and I didn't even know he was in it. It was my first Broadway show) and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (I obviously knew he was in that one)
I'd give anything to see Kristen in something!!!! Oh, God, let Young Frankenstein be successful.

I cannot remember them off hand but there have been a few
If I look thru old Playbills I can tell you
Mattbrain,
I pray every day that Young Frankenstein maintains the cast from the table read. I think thats all it needs to be successful. The cast has enough big names to sell out WAY before opening, even if the show sucks. Personally, i'll be first in line to pay obscene amounts of money for a premium seat! **ends thread-jacking comment**
So, to keep this post relevant to the topic, I WANT TO SEE THIS SHOW SO BAD! But, its a limited engagement, and i'm most likely not gonna make it back to the city before it closes...

The cast has enough big names to sell out
Not At ALL! Maybe big to you, but not to the everyday joe who goes to see a Broadway show, and those are the people who are paying the actors. Julia Roberts and Harry Connick Jr. are big enough to sell a show out before opening. Sutton Foster, Kristin Chenoweth, Brian D'arcy Jame, and Roger Bart? Each one of them is in a show right now that isn't selling to full capacity.
Mr Roxy- I am talking about shows nowadays.
Yeah, right after I posted that I realized that those names are only big to someone who is really into Broadway musicals. I apologize for that.
But I do think that "Young Frankenstein", like "The Producers" before it, will be successful for it not only is based off of an extremely hilarious and popular movie, but it will have Mel Brooks' name attached to it which is bound to bring people in who wouldn't normally go see a musical. (And Cloris, reprising her role as Frau Bleucher!)

The only thing Young Frank has going for it is Mel Brooks' name. Yes, the cast is phenominal (at least by Broadway standards....and how many times have we seen THAT go wrong), but none of them sell tickets.
SOOOO the Apple Tree... Heh... hehe... *awkwardly steps away from computer*

Ring of Fire got a standing O. It means nothing anymore!
It means those viewing it enjoyed it. Simply that I like a show means nothing & vice versa nor does our opinion make it a good show or not. What is good or not is relative
Do you really think both Sutton and Chenoweth will do the show especially Chenoweth just because of movies she might be doing...

I think that a standing ovation now is more of an obligation. "Oh everyone else is standing, lets get up"
A standing ovation that I saw that I felt meant people enjoyed it was in the middle of Grey Gardens after Revolutionary Costume. When people stand IN THE MIDDLE OF A SHOW that means that they enjoyed it.
I disagree.
Now you basically have to be told when to show your appreciation. If you do it at the end, it somehow doesn't count?
We both have differing opinions of a standing O

saw last night and LOVED it! Chenoweth was fabulous, and I'm not a wicked/chenoweth/idina-obsessor. She truly was brilliant.
