Hunh! I could have sworn he listed it in his book of flops. I knew it ran over a year, but I didn't know if it turned a profit or not. Thanks!
This year, cuz BRKLYN is gonna win everything!

Best Tonys? The one where Rosie opened the show. I LOVED her opening act! Wasn't that 98?
I think that Rosie hosted more than one show.

I was just talking about there being a lot of product in 98 and 01.
Plus, in 01.... a show like FULL MONTY might have won 10 Tony Awards in another year. Even SEUSSICAL would be the best new musical of this season... so far, at least.

What year did Dorothy Loudon sing "Vodka"? ("I am too good for this song. I am too good for this room. I am NOT too good for this dress!"

Here are a few thoughts written, In 1999, about Rosie's Hosting:
"Perhaps the most ill-advised move of all was to kow-tow shamelessly to Rosie O'Donnell. Two years ago, when Ms. O'Donnell was at the brief height of her popularity, she hosted the Tony's and was credited with bringing the ratings from the basement up to . . . well, somewhere on the basement steps.
Acclaimed as a miracle worker, Ms. O'Donnell demanded and received full creative control over the next Tony broadcast, disposing of the experienced production team and replacing it with one of her choosing. With no one to restrain her, she carried on loudly during the awards, subjected America to tasteless jokes (one about tampons was particularly unnecessary), and was surprised when the ratings slips a few steps back into the basement. Having turned things inside out, she has blithely announced that she cannot take part in the 1998 Tony broadcast – seems she just can't fit it into her schedule – so many more important things to do. Good grief!"

Loudon's legendary performance of "Vodka" (notice my signature line) was on the 1983 Tony Awards, the year when the Uris Theatre was renamed the Gershwin on the telecast.

I'm sure that was a typo....you meant to say Victoria Clark.
I loved Rosie's Tony Broadcasts. By far the most entertaining Tony awards I've seen. I loved the Ragtime joke. It was hilarious! She was the one who gave more time for performances of the shows and added some humor that wasn't completely antiquated or delivered by those with no stand-up skills like the presenters are often forced to do underrehearsed (remember the last Oscars?). I think the only host I enjoyed more than Rosie was Angela Lansbury. 87 and 88 were truly classy award shows. It was downhill for a while until Rosie perked things up and made the Tonys fun again.
