The Bodyguard casting

How do you feel about the casting of the character Rachel Marron in the stage show? I have always felt that the actresses so far did not capture the right feel/star quality. The little details Whitney had, like the look in her eyes, or the way she smiles in between words, mixed with a kind of arrogance and fun.

Yesterday there was the annual Uitmarkt in Holland, and this Dutch girl performed the role. It was like a preview, rehearsals have just started, I was very impressed. What do you guys think?

I would love to see/hear/compare different actresses in this thread.

I think so, but they are still in rehearsals, first preview is in a few weeks, so don't know when the recording will be released.

Yes, but that's a different country. That is the UK version. This new production is the Dutch version, in Holland.

Yes, every country in Europe has it's own "showbusiness world" and media landscape. The country next to Holland, Germany has yet another production of The Bodyguard, with an own cast recording etc. Probably starring it's own national celebrities etc.

I always compare this to the USA. Which is a country with it's own media landscape, own government etc, and once you are a national star, it is all over the country. Every country in Europe is a smaller America on it's own. With it's own government, own rules, own showbusiness world, and own stars. Holland has 12 "provincies" which can be compared to the states of the USA. Together they form the country. Once you go over the border to another country (like France or Germany), you step into a completely different world. Different language, government and the countries don't know anything about eachothers showbizz landscape. Europe is huge, and it is interesting to compare all the different productions of the same show.

Business and people like Cameron Mackintosh, Disney, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Elton John, always visit every country to make sure the show is of the exact same standards as the Broadway and West end versions.(Phantom of the Opera, Billy Elliot, Miss Saigon, Aida, Tarzan, Avenue Q, Les Miserables, The Lion King, Elisabeth, Wicked, etc, etc).

Every now and then a performer is exchanged to another country, to play the role there in a different language, for example Willemijn Verkaik as Elphaba (Holland, germany and UK and Broadway), or Joke de Kruijf as Christine in Phantom (Holland and Germany).
