In yet another (no doubt fruitless) attempt to get people discussing some kind of theater other than musicals, I give you....Elizabeth Marvel, one of theater's best and most interesting, in a short but sweet interview:
Elizabeth Marvel

"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.” ~ Muhammad Ali

What a delightful interview...short but very sweet indeed. "Hedda" was my first opportunity to see Ms Marvel live, and she completely lived up to her inherently expectation raising name.

I'm quite intrigued by her comparing the work to a Pollock painting...I like that. The production captivated me tremendously, and yet the gentlemen immediately to my left was completely turned off by it and scoffed 'Pretentious!' as he hurriedly left the theatre. To each his own, but it's heartening to know that something is being produced that can level such huge reactions. And even he did admit that he had trouble taking his eyes off Ms Marvel when she was onstage...a tremendous emotional journey to make so many times a week.

I also very much appreciate how the flower pot rampage (loved the use of 'Blue' over that, btw) is triggered by something different, night to night. I'm extraordinarily impressed by that level of living in the moment, and being to involved in the character that they do become a totally human element, so much that their human emotions aren't exclusively bound and triggered by the very text that created them. At least, that's how I'm considering it right now...going to mull over it some more.

Off to re-consider the production in terms of some of this interview a bit...can't wait to see Ms Marvel again at the Atlantic this winter!

Laughing is a tonic. So forget crying. Cry, and you cry alone. Laugh and you...cry alone later. And remember --- always breathe. Even if I stop, you keep breathing out there, alright?
