This was already announced a few days ago. As you can see the article you posted is from Aug 23. I don't know why BWW considers this breaking news.

CZJ would make an excellent Chaperone.
It does seem an odd choice to adapt as a movie since it's so theatrically rooted.
But I applaud their courage to film an old fashioned musical however. It doesn't seem to have the mass appeal as a Chicago or Les Miz.

I don't know why BWW considers this breaking news.
Because BWW has an obsession with the words Breaking News even when the story is not all that exciting.
No Scarywarhol, it's not you lol.
It all depends on the script and the concept.
Geoffrey Rush was the driving force behind another smaller play that was very talky and couldn't possibly translate well as a film.
That was "The King's Speech."
If anybody can gather the right talents together with the right vision, it's Mr. Rush.
I'm actually very excited about the possibilities.
