I'm sure I'm part of a very small cross section of people who read both BWW and The Economist daily, so I figured I'd share a cool model they put together to predict Broadway grosses. My favorite is the drop down where you can select the lead actor and look at the grosses they predict they would bring in. Enjoy!

Fascinating and really fun to play with.
Thanks for sharing this.

What do they mean with cast scoring? How many people are in the cast or about what the popularity of the whole cast overall is?
I don't understand why they just have Hollywood talent in the cast list and not Broadway talent as well. It's undeniable that Audra McDonald or Patti Lupone can help sell a show.
it is so fraught with flaws that it is best to think of it just as a game.

Totally agree - they simply did regressions on all of the variables, and we all know correlation does not imply causation. But still fun to play around with

I played with it for about a minute before I got frustrated. You can't predict this kind of stuff.
Reading the methodologies and metrics determinations behind this model is super interesting...but I would have hoped that the people behind this would have realized that the whole point of this industry is that you can't plug it into a system and determine your revenues or success. That's the entire point.
Thanks for posting though, GreenGables. Interesting to peruse.
If "cast" is cast size, why require 10? So many plays have many fewer actors
