Oh I just ruv the Fantasticks the music is so enchanting and sooooooo romantic! I just saw a performance of it and it was very well done! favorite quotes:
"I've been dying for 40 years, ever since I was a boy."
"Go ahead Mortemer, die for the man!"
"Remember Mortemer, there are no small actors, just small parts."
That is one of my favorites! I love the simplicity of the show and like you said the music. I love the songs the fathers sing, Plant a Radish and Never Say No, very clever lyrics. The whole show is just wonderful.
Oh you rock i ruv those songs, the fathers are fun and i really like when louise and matt sing soooooo romantic to me

If the show is done right, the following lines should make you cry like a baby:
(After "They Were You", the fathers enter to discover Matt and Luisa together)
Hucklebee: "Look - they've come back!"
Bellamy: "It's a miracle - let's tear down the wall!"
El Gallo: "No - leave the wall. You must always leave the wall."
(segues into "Deep in December, it's nice to remember...")
I ruv that scene

"She began to notice something strange
Her ugly duckling features had undergone a change
In short, she was growing pretty
For the first time in her whole life...pretty
And the shock so stunned and thrilled her that she became almost Immediately
Incurably
INSANE!"
I would love to play The Girl :)
For those who love "The Fantasticks," the documentary on the 2002 closing in New York is premiering at the Walter Reade Theatre at Lincoln Center Monday night (7 and 8:30) and Wednesday afternoon at 1pm. Since I was the final Boy's Father in New York, I am in the film both on stage and in an interview, so I'm excited.
that's really cool!
good for you billyweeds! i wish they'd air it on tv
what a charming, unique show!

Oh no, Iruvyou! Rooks rike you accidentally wrote "I love you" in your 06:53:42 AM post! I guess this means you don't have to lite that you "ruv" things any more. You can type it l-o-v-e! Hoolay!
Bill Weeden was a wonderful "Boy's Father" in the final cast of the show..the documentary should be very interesting!
Eddie, WHO is that in your picture??
AWWW...I love this show! Wish I could see the documentry too but it'd be a long walk. Still, congrats Mr.Weeden!
Has anyone seen the movie version of "The Fantasticks"?
How is it?
They must have had to add in a setting and whatnot...
Does that take away from it at all?
I like the play a lot better then the movie
I like the movie version, but the play is definitley better. The movie ruined the simplicity of the show (which in my opinion made the show what it was).It brought everything to life which was nice, but it just wasn't The Fantasticks that everyone knows, it was to elaborate and tried too much. All of the people cast were perfect for there parts though (especially Joel Grey!).They cut a couple of the songs, if I remember correctly for time limits and the mute basically has not part in the show you see him in the background from what i can recall only once or twice. overall the movie is good, but cannot hold a candle to the stage show.

I am probably one of the few people who own a copy of this movie. It cannot compare with the play, of course!, but it's cute enough. Jean Louisa Kelly is adorable as Luisa.
I LOVE "The Fantastics"..I started a topic about it when I first joined this board a few months ago. I learned from Eddie Varley about Billyweeds playing the boy's father in the final two years run. Thanks again Eddie...and thanks again Billyweeds for responding on my topic. I'm glad the documentary is 'on' again...seems it was put on hold for a while.
I Love EVERYTHING about "The Fantastics"....the story, the message, the music....everything.
I have a DVD of the movie version, and while it's not quite the same as the play, I do love it and play it over and over again. If I don't have the DVD of the movie playing, then the CD of the OBC recording is playing. I just cannot seem to get enough of "The Fantastics"!
Although I love all of Matt and Luisa's songs, I can't seem to stop humming "Soon it's Gonna Rain"!
BTW, Jonathon Morris who plays 'El Gallo' in the movie is not too hard to look at.
My VERY FAVE quote from "The Fantastics" is my signature quote.....
Forgot to mention...I also used to have a photo of Jonathon Morris as 'El Gallo' as my avatar..can't find my original Jonathon Morris 'El Gallo' photo...hope this one posts!
I love that quote, and the Pre-Try to Remember one. They're beautiful. The show's so simple, but so deep. It shows what's truly important in life.
