According to the NY Times, the Fantasticks is returning to off-Broadway at the new Snapple theater center opening date August 17th (previews begin July 28th). Anyone else excited?

I am excited, though I wonder if it might be fun to have someone else direct it a little bit differently.
At any rate, it should be lovely to have it back on the boards.
This is one revival that should be done exactly as it was done before. It should never have closed in the first place.

It's been directed so many ways all over the country, but the fact remains it is done best when it is done simply, with no comment or irony, and with total belief in its message.
Tom Jones will do it right.
thank you dancinfan for the link. Whoa you guys beat me. I was just going to write I hope they don't change anything, like "vamp it up," or modernize it. It is so beautiful on its own
Ooh, I am rather excited for this. Hope it stays simple, like ya'll have said.
This is very exciting news!
The Fantasticks is easily in my top 3 musicals. I had the pleasure of seeing it twice Off Broadway and I am sure I'll be seeing it again when it reopens this fall.
Anyone other than Tom Jones would be a mistake.

I weep with joy...The Fantasticks was my first musical ever, but I never got to see it in NYC...I'm so happy!
I directed a production of The Fantasticks last year. Each time I sat through the performances I never grew tired of it as I might with other shows, it is a flawless show! I can't wait to see it on stage again! Good question: why did it close in the first place?!
The article "dwindling audience," which I don't know. When I saw it, pretty close to when it closed, it was full. But Sullivan St is really small. The articles says it was also due to the "entrance of a new landlord with renovation plans."
Great news!
But...
"at the new Snapple theater center"
Blah! Who's gonna buy a theater next? Tampax?

There is a big new production playing at the Gateway Playhouse in the summer....I wonder if any of the cast will play this New York City production after?
This is such amazing news!! I'm tres happy right now!
Can't stop laughing at the name "Snapple Theater" Damn you, it'll be in my mind all day.

Will there be live Snapple commercials before the performances?

Like almost everyone in the world, I played in college production of the show and was lucky enough to have the then very-young and unknown Michelle Nicastro play my daughter Luisa. It was a dream to do.
Is Wendy the Snapple Lady playing El Gallo?

There should never be a "big" production of this show. The small, simple-ness of the show is what makes it a masterpiece.
I, like so many others, have also been in this show, played the role of Matt. It was one of the greatest shows I've been in, and I can't wait to see it when it returns.

There is no reason that the Gateway cast would be the same cast as this new production!? That doesn't even make sense, these are two different casting directors/companies.
On that note, any ideas for casting??? (Keeping in mind that off broadway salaries are unfortunately not high, probably ruling out some people who are used to the bigger broadway contract salaries . . . )
"...will there be a "theatre fact" under each seat?"
Lol. Hmm...not sure about casting. I am kinda hoping they cast a bunch of unknowns. Lord knows the show is so good on its own and has its loyal following that they don't need a big name to attract people. Plus in such a simple, small show like that it will be nice to see some up-and-comers.
BTW: does anyone know what is going on in the Sullivan Street playhouse now?
