I remember when I auditioned for my 2nd grade choir. It was the first time I auditioned for anything and I was excited and my music teacher gave me some music to sing and she would come to each of us individually to hear us sing alone. I sang the notes on the sheet and when i was done people were staring at me. I thought I did something wrong but then they started clapping for me. That felt good and I've been in choir ever since.
2 years old, at my uncle's wedding....
my parent's had just finished singing a duet together and i said "my turn now" and walked onto the bandstand and sang "i'm a little teapot" =)
Hmm, I guess I'm a late bloomer. I'd always been terrified to sing in front of people because both of my parents are like insane opera singers who sing at everyone's weddings in town and I was afraid if I sang people would be like "wow, their daughter sucks" or something, so I even quit chorus my first 2 years of high school so I wouldn't have to sing for blending placement(We have to see My Country Tis of Thee so she can put us next to people our voices blend with). But anyway, this past year, my junior year, I rejoined, made it through placement although I think I sang so soft it was inaudible.
Actually singing a song though is when I decided to audition for the school musical Oklahoma in November, and we had to sing "many a new day" in front of like the 80 other people trying out, and I went way off key people said, but I acted it out cute My first non-sucky experience was in front of our whole choir in May when I sang Amarilli in preparation for NYSSMA solo festival and that actually went good and everyone was like "omg you can sing great!" and my NYSSMA judge said I sounded good so that made me feel better and now I'm not so nervous because I figure hey, I'm not the worst. Wee!
Fun topic!!! Well, in 9th grade I auditioned for the talent show by singing Out Tonight...only the teacher HATED RENT!! However, everyone who saw me audition automatically started calling me "Out Tonight girl" and it became my trademark! A few days later in Drama class, we had a substitute and our assignment was to listen to Phantom and write a synopsis...well, the whole class was BORED and one of my friends randomly goes, "hey, Out Tonight girl can sing, why don't you perform for us??" So I got in front of the class and sang Out Tonight and for my encore I did Over The Moon!! From then on the whole class started performing whatever they wanted...and the substitute didn't care! Haha that was such a fun day! I ended up making it into the talent show, but the teacher made me sing What I Did for Love instead.
First time singing something for anyone was when I was little, but serious singing was first when Iw as about 12 and auditioned for Alice and Wonderland. Have since performed in a choir, as well as a solo in my school's production of Cabaret last year.

For school? I was in 5th grade and I really wanted to be the telephone operator in teh Christmas show... instead she casted me as a child. I auditioned with her, she played notes on teh piano and checked me out. She told me I could be whatever part I wanted, and I chose the telephoen operator. Looking back, I think the child had the bigger part, but I guess that was my first informal audition ever.

I'm the late bloomer here. I didn't get my first solo until high school. It was "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again" from "Phantom" and I did it a cappella for the audition. It was sooo funny because I was never a choir standout (well, I was, my voice was 'different') but when my audition was done, the music teacher said, "Well, I guess you can sing."
(She was surprised to say the least.)

as a child i always knew i could sing but refused to believe I really could. I just convinced myself i was bad, nothing was there. my elementary school did musicals (like the jr versions) & 3rd & 4th grade would be ensemble & 5th grade would be the main stars. when i was ensemble in 3rd & 4th I started to get into the idea of singing more. My school also had a holiday show every year & solo's were given for some songs & i always of course was too chicken to try out so never did. 5th grade my friends pushed me in to it though, & i ended up getting a nice solo=]. then when the musical try outs came (whole grade HAD to be in it) the show was The Music Man & i tried out. I ended up getting Zaneta Shinn & from there on I realized I could sing & it was a gift, & have been in lots of shows & all since. I hope it will take me far to broadway one day=] *tear* lol. Yea, I'm 17 so my story is TBC.
