I know that it only started playing on Friday night but I was wondering if anyone has seen it yet. It's such a fun play! I had a chance to direct it a number of years ago and I'm now wondering what this new production is like and how Matthew Broderick is as 'Charlie'.
Saw it Sunday night - it was great! VERY funny, excellent cast, scenery, lighting and sound. A must see! Matthew is perfect for the part, had some of the cast cracking up laughing when they weren't supposed to I think!!!
Happy to hear that. It's such a funny play, especially the story that Charlie tells to everyone in the second act.
Blasny blasny!
I also saw "Sly Fox", but think "The Foriegner" is MUCH funnier. Funniest play I've seen on Broadway so far actually.

I saw the original production at the Astor Palace Theatre back in 1985 and fell in love with it. I wish I had another opportunity to come to New York and see this production. It only started previews after I left and I understand that it's a limited engagement.
It's been three weeks since the original posting of this thread, so I was wondering if anyone has yet had a chance to see this show and, if so, what are your thoughts of the production. It opens today.
Well, I saw The Foreigner a week after your first post "PAB" (Oct 21) and I had fun, but I still thought they needed to tighten things up a little bit over all. I'm not a big fan of Matthew Broderick but I thought he did alright as "Charlie". I think he'll do alright, it just needed a bit more sharpening I guess that's what I mean. And his English accent he uses just sort of bugs me, too.
The play really doesn't kick in until the second act. It's a very slow opener, with the ground work being laid in the first act. But the whole cast is thoroughly enjoyable in their roles. I enjoy Frances Sternhagen as a wonderfully sweet and ditsy "Betty Meeks". But I think the real show stealer here is Kevin Cahoon as "Ellard". He plays "stupid" very well. (I mean that in a good way, of course! ... LOL) The scene between him and Broderick mimicking each other with the table utensils is hilarious and kept the audience rolling with laughter.
Mary Catherine-Garrison was fine and believable as "Catherine", too. The only character I thought that wasn't that believable was "Owen" the clan guy, played by Lee Terguson. I just didn't think he was menacing enough, but maybe that has changed since that first week of performance.
I plan on going to see it again the first weekend in December. I've always liked this play. It's a perfectly silly and fun way to spend an afternoon at the theatre. So, if you have any luck in trying to get a ticket for this one.... go see it.
Okay, that's my 2 cents worth......

I, too, directed a production of THE FOREIGNER. However, my memories of the show are obscured by the fact that my father passed away in the middle of rehearsals.
My mother died while I was directing LOST IN YONKERS.
I went to the original reading of this play at Studio 54 with Estelle Parsons and that guy from that TV show Newhart when they were still considering it - and I enjoyed it very much then I can't wait to see it!

Broderick and Cahoon in one show makes me one verrrry happy girl. Is there rush for this, or am I going to have to suck it up and pay full price?
Cabarethed.... It seems a hard ticket to come by, but I thinks you'll have to suck it up and pay full price my dear. I doubt there are any discounts for this limited run. But you know, Mr. Cahoon is well worth the effort! LOL
I just can't seem to warm up to Broderick though, he's never been my "cup of tea".
Good luck on your ticket buying!! And if you have any luck... enjoy!
