YOU are the one that used the phrase "synonymous with Tony," not anyone else. Nor did anyone but YOU say anything about him winning for every show that he has written. And NOWHERE did I claim that this show would WIN next year.
Let's take another look at what I actually said, shall we?:
"this looks to be a main contender for the 2005 Best Musical race"
I used the word "CONTENDER" which is true, nearly every show Sondheim has written has been IN CONTENTION for the Tony -- West Side Story, Gypsy, A Funny Thing Happened On the Way To the Forum, Company, Follies, Pacific Overtures, A Little Night Music, Side By Side By Sondheim, Sweeney Todd, Sunday In The Park with George, Into The Woods, and Passion were all nominated for Best Musical (and Assassins will be nominated for best revival next week). They were all NOMINATED -- in this context, that's what "CONTEND" means. If you are having trouble with the meaning of the word "CONTENDER," perhaps you should try a dictionary.
And I stand by my statement: a new musical by Stephen Sondheim, directed and choreographed by Susan Stroman, and starring Nathan Lane (lets add up all of the Tony nominations and wins just from those three, not even counting the award-winning design team)would look the have a very good chance of getting one of four Best Musical slots in 2005.
