The Frogs
#25How's the score?
Posted: 5/21/04 at 10:41pmOkay I'm looking forward to receiving the CD (the studio cast one from a few years ago) so I can a bit familiar with the show and it's also the only Sondheim show I don't have a version of. Most of the shows I have multiple casts.

#26After seeing an original translation...
Posted: 5/22/04 at 2:07pmAs a student in Boston, I recently saw the Harvard Classical Club's drama production of Frogs, with an original translation. It's pretty X-rated, to be truthful, but the entire play was rife with politics, big laughs, and drama queens. I'm personally looking forward to this: Latin literature meets Sondheim. What could be better?

There is no original cast recording of the Yale production, which starred Larry Blyden (although it is available on bootlegs). The recently released album, partnered with Evening Primrose and featuring Nathan Lane and B. S. Mitchell, is strictly a studio recording. The score has Sondheim's stylistic thumbprints all over it and comes from his great middle period, for which he will no doubt be remembered.
