I found it to be long and trying...Williams is such a proficient and allegorical playwright, that it felt as if I were in English class rather than at the theatre. Too many metaphors to take in - it gave me a headache.
However, the acting overall was superb. Fields was extraordinary throughout, though I wasn't wild about her overly abrubt transition into "crazy-woman"...almost entirely throughout she's this sensible almost constricted woman and then, all of a sudden, over something so miniscule, she explodes...there wasn't enough build up...it felt overdramatic. But, the male lead (Tom, played by John Harner I believe) was brilliant.

I would have loved to see Patty Duke as Amanda in the Kennedy Center's revival. I caught Patty Duke's Amanda in the Roundabout's Reading almost two years ago. She was truly amazing and it was with only a few hours rehearsal.

I assume you are talking about the performance at the Kennedy Center? I wasn't expecting to see a mention of that on a Broadway Board.
I saw it a couple of weeks ago & Sally Fields was great, but I must agree the male lead was brilliant. The play was well done and a pleasure to see. The woman who played the daughter was also very good.
