The Goat (or Who Is Sylvia?)

Are there many productions of this around? I live in central New Jersey, and I don't think I've ever heard of a theatre company doing it near me. The show is very shocking and out there, but I think it's an amazing piece of theatre and I wish a theatre would do it near me. I was just curious if most people ever heard of this show playing in community or regional theatres near them.

What a coincidence, I started a thread on THE GOAT just last night.

There's currently a production in Toronto, but it's closing this weekend.

I'd love to see it around me. Perhaps some of the smaller community theatres are afraid it's too intense or something.

Are the rights available to anyone, or are they restricted to professional companies?

I've read the play a number of times and I'm dying to see it performed.

Philadelphia theatre Co. did it last season, but obviously that doesn't help you. It was a wonderful production, though.

Arena Stage, in Washington DC, did it this past March. It really is an incredible play.

And here I thought this thread was someone trying to find me! In any case, I would love to see some regional companies start to take on "The Goat" (the play), but you need four very, very, good (and fearless) actors. It is certainly a play that audiences respond to strongly--both positively and negatively. I still remember the two women sitting next to me at one Broadway performance--they had only come because Sally Field was in it, and boy, did they get more than they bargained for. If there had been an intermission, they would have set speed records running out of the theatre!

We saw it with the original cast & I Kidd you not we loved it. I think the song I remember from it was It Had to Be Ewe
